The primary audience for women in black is was a young adult
radiance and often harry potter fans who have grown up,this is probably because
of the use of Daniel Radcliffe and his attraction to younger audiences, also
there is a strong theme of children in the film and the biggest audience would
be children who are old enough to understand but young enough the relate.
The secondary audience for women in black was a more serious
adult audience, this is probably because the genre of the film and the subject
matter is quite mature,it was a literary so would encourage a reader
audience, the Gothic themes and style of the film would attract a older
audiences as well.
2.How was The Woman in Black marketed? (Think about
genre(s), subgenre(s), media platforms, target audience, promotions, size of
campaign, etc.).
The women in black was marketed through the use of social
media and the internet it focused heavily on involving the audience encouraging
them to submit there own ghost stories and enter competitions and get involved.
The genre Horror would have been popular in movie theaters and TVs so the
trailers were often shows in theaters,on TV and on the radio.
3.Do you think the marketing materials for the film were
appropriate? Why?
I feel that the marketing materials for the film were
appropriate because they encouraged a interest in the film and a hype, the
trailers and advertisement did not distract from the real meaning of the film
but tactically avoided ruining the films story.
4.What kind of release did the film have? (Big/small? How
many cinemas showed the film on its release?)
with a budget of $17,000,000 it made $29,874,072 in the US
and £3,153,020 in the UK .With 2,855 screens showing in the US and 412 in the
UK. overall world wide it sold $54,322,273
5.How much did The Woman in Black cost to make? (Production
budget) AND what was the industry impact of The Woman in Black? (Think box
office and trends).
It had a budget of $17,000,000
and made $54,322,273
6.Why do you think the film was so successful? (You must
come up with at least two reasons).
I feel that the film was successful because of Daniel
Radcliffe and the marketing and distribution of the film to increase hype and
audience awareness. Daniel Radcliffe brought the biggest audience to the film
and due to his fame in Harry Potter, his interest in showing that he could be a
actual actor and not just "harry potter" created a greater interest
in the film and was partial to its success. The use of Social media and TV,film
and radio gave the audience a reason to go see the film apart from fancying a
trip to the cinema,it clearly stated what was in the film and what it was about
making the audience feel more involved and interested.
